Application Window Open Until March 19, 2017

The Open Technology Fund’s Information Controls Fellowship Program (ICFP) is now accepting applications through its open call system.

Applications will be accepted starting today, February 6, 2017 through March 19, 2017.

Apply here.

The ICFP program focuses on tracking, analyzing, and increasing understanding of the tactics used by repressive governments to censor and surveil the internet and mechanisms to overcome them. As an interdisciplinary field, OTF welcomes applicants from a broad range of specializations and approaches, including technologists, lawyers, hackers, security researchers, and software engineers.

ICFP fellows work with host organizations on wide breadth of topics like censorship tracking and measurement techniques, reverse-engineering targeted malware attacks on at-risk groups, and development of novel circumvention tools, among others. Applicants are welcome to propose the host organization of their choosing.

The Open Technology Fund (OTF)’s Information Controls Fellowship Program (ICFP) was jointly established in 2014 with Citizen Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto to cultivate research, programs, and creative collaboration focusing on information controls - specifically repressive internet censorship and surveillance. Modeled after other successful fellowship programs, the ICFP supports fellows to work within host organizations that are established centers of expertise by offering competitively paid fellowships.
