Wechatscope aims to develop a systematic, scalable and robust system to collect, analyze, and visualize a representative set of censored messages of Wechat’s public accounts in China.

The data are publicly accessible via API, website and the social media. It strives to make the set of “forbidden” messages in China open access and the public’s censored voice can be heard by the people outside and inside China, helping them understand China’s public sphere by using data analytics and visualization. It also aims at engaging with strategic partners to maximize the project’s impact.
