WeChatScope aims to develop a systematic, scalable and robust system to collect, analyze, and visualize a representative set of censored messages of Wechat’s public accounts in China.

The data is publicly accessible via API, website and the social media. It strives to make the set of “forbidden” messages in China open access and the public’s censored voice can be heard by the people outside and inside China, helping them understand China’s public sphere by using data analytics and visualization. It also aims at engaging with strategic partners to maximize the project’s impact. The data and the analysis will be publicly published and shared with researchers and activists working on exposing censorship practices on the Wechat platform.
