This applied research project will investigate app usage of mobile device users in several targeted regions known for repressive information controls. The goal is to better understand controls and censorship in these locations.
The intended output is a toolkit that mines mobile apps and users focusing on characterizing those app usage activities. In addition, the project will produce in-depth understanding and insights regarding the status and possible causes of the repressive control suffered by the affected communities, as well as actionable recommendations on potential solutions for mitigating/bypassing the control.
