Research Methods Workshop for Internet Policy in Africa was held from February 26 to March 3, 2018.
The workshop was focused on building a corps of early researchers, tool developers and CSO representatives who can better identify the mechanisms used by governments to censor and surveil their citizens online. The event was a collaboration between The Internet Policy Observatory at the Annenberg School at the University of Pennsylvania and the Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA).
Of 370 applicants, only 37 were picked to participate, and come from a variety of countries facing internet freedom challenges and repressions of human rights online. In addition, the participants have a wide range of expertise and experiences from social sciences, journalism, technology development, cybersecurity, law, and human rights activism
