The Global Voices Summit explores how key ideas in the structure of the internet and the shape of online discourse can rewire our societies for resilience, deliberative civics, a journalism based on cross-cultural understanding and trust.

The event brings together the Global Voice community, which includes journalists, human rights activists, bloggers, and other civil society members working in hostile and difficult information environments in the Global South. The 2017 Summit was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and welcomed members from over 60 countries for topics including threats to online speech, safety and reporting online, threats facing region-specific bloggers, and internet freedom tool demos.
