Routing Technology for a Free and Open Internet

Internet routing is one of the most important components of the internet’s overall infrastructure, yet it still remains largely insecure. Routing systems can be easily hijacked to conduct website blocks, surveillance on users, and redirect traffic to bogus (and possibly malicious) destinations.

In response, internet standards bodies have started developing Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) as a method to add signatures that can be used to verify the authenticity of routing information, in order to prevent route hijacking and snooping. In this project, LACNIC and NIC.MX will contribute to these RPKI development efforts, as well as conduct deployment campaign in Latin America and the Caribbean, and document routing incidents in the region.
