Request for Proposals: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Within the global internet freedom field, time and experience have shown OTF that teams who continually interweave diversity, equity, and inclusion practices into their day-to-day work create better technologies. This is because more diverse teams: 1) better reflect the communities who depend on the technologies; 2) incorporate in their designs and concepts functionality and suitability geared towards a wider, more global variety of people; and 3) create more professional opportunities for individuals who have been historically underrepresented in the technology field, bringing in new perspectives, experiences, and knowledge.

The Challenge
As the community of internet freedom technologists continues to expand globally, three notable challenges for OTF persist: 1) managing the increasing number of novel ideas requesting support; 2) establishing relevance with the increasingly diverse pool of efforts in need of support; and 3) receiving adequate feedback from these communities and responding appropriately.

With the assistance of contracted individual consultants or organizations, OTF aims to listen and engage more effectively in order to ensure that we are including a wider variety of voices and experiences in our day-to-day operations. This would include, for example, how OTF’s application system functions, developing longer-term strategies, and the decision-making process around choosing efforts to support.

Services Requested
To this end, OTF is seeking proposals to provide services such as:

  • Individual / Team Culture Building Consultation & Coaching
  • Performing Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Assessments with Recommendations
  • Design & Facilitation of Events, Workshops, and Trainings
  • Review & Development of Hiring, Onboarding, and Promotion Practices
  • Review & Development of Compliance, Employment, and HR Policies
  • Review & Development of Internal / External Communication
  • Code-of-Conduct Design for Teams & Events

Candidate(s) will be working to advance collaboration and strengthen connections between the following priority groups:

  • Individuals that make up the OTF team and our Advisory Council;
  • Teams and individuals currently and previously supported by OTF;
  • Teams and individuals seeking OTF support;
  • Previous and existing teams and individuals who have received OTF support; and
  • Existing funders, donors, and other sustainers of internet freedom efforts.
