Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for overseeing and managing financial processes at OTF. This position is for an individual with several years of high-level accounting experience. The ideal candidate for the position will be knowledgeable of internal controls for accounting, as well as organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at multitasking. This person will proactively identify opportunities for improvement within OTF’s operations and work cooperatively to implement changes. The position requires a passion for working collaboratively with diverse global communities who are actively countering threats to internet freedom, independent journalism, and human rights with technology-backed solutions.

Position Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will possess 5+ years experience as an accountant, auditor, or similar role, preferably in a not-for-profit or US-government funded environment. A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or Business Administration is required. A passion for social change and interest in the field of human rights and Internet freedom is essential. Additional qualifications include: managing all month-end close activities, preparing SF-425s and SODs for Director of Finance review, assisting with the development and implementation of OTF financial policies and processes, in consultation with the Director of Finance, including developing templates, creating process maps for accounting procedures, ensuring accuracy of accounting transactions within Intacct, managing payroll and benefits for U.S. and non-U.S. staff, supporting the Director of Finance in responding to federal funding agency data calls and reporting requests, approving invoices, supporting the annual audit process, providing budget support to OTF Program Team and projects, onboarding and training new staff; and demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Job Location

Washington, DC, USA preferred, with flexibility for remote work as approved.


Salary $120,000 to $140,000 annually commensurate with qualifications and experience.
